Sustainability

The Farm

Being in the agriculture field and being a family farm long before the 1960’s, we hold a deep appreciation for our land and a steadfast commitment to its preservation. Opting for a deliberate and sustainable cycle, our long-term objective is to maintain organic farming as the primary focus and production model on our farm.

Cultivating a variety of crops such as corn, wheat, soy, sugar beet, wine grapes, and tomatoes, the majority of our expansive 600-hectare estate is dedicated to the organic cultivation of these products. Additionally, we take pride in our commitment to sustainability, exemplified by the establishment and operation of a biomass plant since 2012.

The Tomato Life cycle

We hold a deep appreciation for every stage of the tomato life cycle, fueling our passion for a sustainability initiative focused on harnessing energy from tomato skin remnants. Our biogas plant meticulously processes a blend of tomato skin leftovers along with other organic waste, including chicken manure, green leaf vegetables, and inedible dairy and bakery products.

This intricately designed process unfolds over several hours, following precise stages, all working towards the ultimate objective of generating sustainable and clean energy. At the culmination of this cycle, the amalgamation of initially ‘consumed’ products undergoes transformation into either liquid or solid fertilizer, which is then strategically distributed across our fields at the appropriate and opportune moments.

Sustainability: more than a word

Sustainability in agriculture goes beyond a mere concept; it encompasses the essential equilibrium among three pillars—environmental stewardship, fostering a harmonious connection with the Earth; social responsibility, providing high-quality food at an affordable cost; and economic viability, enabling farmers to generate reasonable profits while embracing environmentally friendly practices. These foundational elements of sustainable development are interwoven, constantly influencing one another.Biological farming aims to produce food using specific techniques that minimize impact on living beings and the environment. It is a fundamental aspiration to sustain and protect the health of all living beings, the ecosystem, and the soil.

The objective is to create high-quality, nutrient-rich food that can prevent health issues and cardiovascular diseases. Our farm is dedicated to embodying this commitment, evident in our circular economy practices. In the realm of healthy eating, the Mediterranean diet stands out as a sustainable choice. Recognized by UNESCO in 2010 as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, the Mediterranean diet is a social practice rooted in a set of skills, knowledge, and traditions that span from the landscape to the table. It encompasses aspects such as culture, fishing, cultivation, harvest, preservation, transformation, preparation, and consumption in the Mediterranean basin. This diet, inclusive of our products, respects food seasonality, reduces greenhouse cultivation, and minimizes environmental impact.
