Our products
Manaresi Tomato Puree and Chopped tomatoes are crafted exclusively from our finest organic tomatoes, cultivated in the fertile lands of the Delta del Po’ valley in the Emilia Romagna region. The distinctive richness and flavor of these tomatoes are derived from the unique peat soil in which they thrive.
Behind the scenes, a meticulous process unfolds throughout the entire tomato life cycle – from the growth of the tiny plants and careful irrigation to the harvest in the months of August and September, leading up to the moment when our tomato puree or chopped tomatoes are carefully bottled. Join us as we unveil the journey of our tomatoes, a story from field to jar.
Transplantation
Our tomato plants start their journey in a greenhouse, where they are meticulously nurtured. Before being transplanted into the soil, they receive a protective treatment using an organic mixture that wards off insects and parasites. In the months of April and May, an automated machine, overseen by a dedicated team of 5 to 6 individuals, carefully inserts these young plants into the ground. This process is a weekly ritual, ensuring that a new parcel is completed regularly, marking the beginning of the cycle once more.
Feeding the plants
Within a 24-hour window, the field receives moisture from efficient irrigation pumps. A fortnight before transplantation, a team strategically places long hoses on the ground surface. These hoses, designed for both watering and administering organic fertilizers, contribute to our commitment to sustainability by utilizing minimal water, ensuring no wastage occurs.
Harvest
Two weeks before the commencement of harvest, we carefully remove the hoses, allowing the tomatoes to ripen optimally under the sun and warmer temperatures. Typically, the harvest kicks off around the 25th of July and concludes by the 10th of September. However, this timeframe can vary depending on weather conditions and our planned production hectares for the year. The technical harvest process is executed with precision using advanced tomato-picking machines operated by skilled farmers. This intricate operation involves a cohesive team managing lorry drivers, suppliers, and individuals working on various tractors and machines. The work hours are extensive, showcasing the remarkable dedication of our employees. Despite occasional chaos, meticulous planning in the months and weeks leading up to the harvest ensures everything runs smoothly.
Transportation
The scorching temperatures of August intensify the labor, prompting a faster pace in the harvest. In just a matter of hours, the organic tomatoes are expertly picked and swiftly transported by a tractor to a waiting lorry, which then conveys them to our nearby factory. The transformation process begins immediately at the facility and is completed within a remarkable 24-hour timeframe.
The puree is made
Within our factory, the tomatoes undergo meticulous and targeted processes. They are thoroughly cleaned, cooked, and finally bottled, ready to be shipped to your local stores.
IS THE TOMATO CYCLE FINISHED?
Certainly not. What becomes of all the leftover tomato skins, you ask? These skins are transported from the factory to our biogas plant, where they are not discarded but rather utilized and processed. The result is the production of clean and renewable energy, along with organic fertilizer. Nothing is wasted in our sustainable process.
